1999 SEA RAY 400 SUNDANCER — SOLD
SOLD
LISTED AT AU $189,990 Negotiable at the time of listing
Sold by Davis Marine Brokerage · was lying Mosman NSW
Sold in 2026. A diesel-shaft 40-footer with twin Caterpillar 3116s, two cabins and more than $80,000 of documented work behind her — listed at AU $189,990 and sold from Mosman.
The Sea Ray 400 Sundancer is one of the most sought-after American sports cruisers of its era, and this one showed why. Genuine 40-foot presence, a large entertaining cockpit and proper two-cabin accommodation, with the mechanical simplicity of twin shaft-drive diesels rather than stern drives.
What set this one apart
The heavy spending had already been done. The vendor documented more than $80,000 of work between December 2018 and November 2025, including a new engine block and rebuild in 2018, new gearboxes in 2019 and 2023, a full slip and antifoul with propulsion works in March 2025, a major electrical overhaul the same month (batteries, charger, alternator and generator), a Lofrans windlass with wireless remote and chain counter, and a Vesscomm 4G monitoring system. Engine hours were 458 port and 448 starboard at listing.
On the water
Twin Caterpillar 3116 diesels of 350hp each gave a 20-knot cruise and about 27 knots flat out, with bow and stern thrusters for berthing. The cockpit has wraparound seating and a wet bar; below deck there is a light saloon, a forward master cabin, a private guest cabin and a separate shower and head. A Westerbeke 230 V generator and air conditioning made her a comfortable weekender at anchor, and she came with an Aurora Reefrider tender and Suzuki 5hp outboard.
What this sale tells you
Buyers of 25-year-old cruisers pay for evidence. Invoices, recent slipping and a clear engine history are what sell a 1999 boat, and this one had all three. If you own a 400 Sundancer or a similar diesel cruiser and want to know what it would achieve today, we can tell you from this and other recent sales.
