Some boats are built. Others are crafted with soul. The Franklin 29 embodies the warmth, charm and timeless appeal that only wood can bring. Built for the 2023 Australian Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart, this vessel is a fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern performance.
Constructed with a composite hull of Western Red Cedar encapsulated in West System epoxy, she offers strength and durability with minimal maintenance. Huon Pine and Celery Top Pine, used inside and out, showcase the finest Australian timber craftsmanship.
Designed by Andrew Wolstenholme, the naval architect behind the Duchy Motor Launch range, the hull is identical in form to the Duchy 27, praised for its balance, sea-keeping and elegant lines. The semi-displacement hull with long keel gives a confident, stable ride, combining the grace of a classic launch with the reliability of a modern cruiser.
Powered by a Yanmar 125hp turbo diesel with only 50 hours, she is barely run in. The direct-shaft inboard delivers smooth, efficient cruising with the clean simplicity of a true gentleman's launch.
Inside, cream leather pairs with the honeyed tones of Huon Pine. A removable roof opens the cabin completely to the sky, turning the interior into a sunlit, open-air retreat for summer cruising. The galley has a drawer-style fridge, induction hob and GME stereo. She was kept in dry storage at White Bay 6 for easy step-on, step-off access.
If you are considering a Palm Beach, Back Cove, Sabre, Duchy Motor Launch, Azzura or Vicem, the Franklin 29 delivers the same pedigree and performance with the unique warmth of fine wood and Australian craftsmanship.
